We made a mistake when we bought DW's 2012 Grand Cherokee (didn't have our class A yet). We figured since it was 4x4, the transfer case could be put in neutral and use it for a toad. Come to find out it's actually AWD and cannot be flat towed.

It appears the 14's have the neutral option to allow flat towing.

If you disconnect the battery will it still record miles?

I had a 2012 GC that I towed over 8000 miles without any miles counting. (you must have the Quadra–Trac II or Quadra–Drive II transfer case)
I now have a 2014 GC but I haven't towed it yet. I doubt the odometer will count up unless it's powered up but if it does I have to figure out a way to disable it.

Have been towing one since June. It does not add miles while towing.

Yup, my understanding is that if you don't have the ignition on, there's no way for the electronic odometer of a late model vehicle to record miles.

We just bought a 14 grand overland, no fear of miles. Our 05 has been towed for over 50,000 miles without adding anything to the odometer.

I just made the plunge and traded a 2 wheel drive 2011 GC for a 2014 GC
4x4 and will be setting it up to tow with the Blue ox system and Blue ox type box
brake. Any Recomendations about having a charge line run to the Jeep from the
coach to keep the battery up. The 2014 has LED lights so it shouldn't take too much
power for them and the brake system. Reading the book so far
I don't see any brakers that need to be removed also.

What's all your guy's advice ?

I am having my 2024 JGC set up this week for towing and they are adding a charge line. Don't know how but it is being done.

There's a wire in the 6 and 7 pin trailer connectors specifically identified as 12V power to the trailer (toad). That pin on the toad side just needs to be connected to the battery via a diode and fuse.

I've never bothered, because the AF1 brake system uses so little power it's not worth it. Nothing else is drawing power while we're towing.

Rick, You don't know how. I don't know why. Other than the installer over selling for revenue. Jeeps do not need a charge wire unless you have some kind of unusual setup. We've towed four different Jeeps four down, with a Brake Buddy supplemental braking system. And, we've towed for five straight days without unhooking or starting the Jeep. No charge wire and always a strong battery. Now, if you had a CR-V, you'd need a charge wire.

If you have a JGC with the Quadra-Lift suspension, you need to run it once a day for a couple minutes to make sure the air tank for the suspension is full. Otherwise the suspension might bleed out and leave the toad running too low. Since that's the case, I sure wouldn't worry about the battery drain for the brake system.

FlyingDriver- the Quadralift stays active even with the key off.

I load 500 lbs of tools in and out of ours. As I load it raises to maintain the setting, as I unload it lowers to hold setting.

I've towed ours for 3 days straight and the suspension maintained the normal ride height.

I do have a charge line, that could be the difference.

5000 miles on it so far being drug around the country.
