Have heard both ways on flat tows. Do miles register on the odometer of the toad or not? If anyone can clear this up I would appreciate the help.... GULFer

Agree with Lyle. I thought that the odometer on our '94 Integra would register miles as it looks like a mechanical one, but it did not, it only racks the miles up when the key is in the run position!

My Jeep does not register miles.

When we towed our minivan it would only rack up miles when we had to tow it with the engine running (long story...)

I think the bottom line is that the vast majority of modern toads have electronic odometers and they won't register miles when the key is not in the "on" position. I can't remember hearing of a case where miles were actually registered. That doesn't mean that the toad isn't racking up "use" during those miles however. It can be a pretty hostile environment back there.

Re Miles.. A lot depends on what, if any, modifications you make.

Today most odometers are electroinc, You pull the fuse that feeds them and they do not record. anything (I might add the vehicle wont' start either)

In the old days they ran off a cable hooked to the trans.. You put a Remco drive shaft disconnect (RWD) or a Axle Lock (FWD) and you put the tranny in PARK to tow.

Either way no miles registered.

2006 Honda CR-V (same as posted above) does not show or register towed mileage.

I keep a log of tow'd miles for maintenance since: Tranny oil, tires and anything else that is used during towing will still require the same maintenance.

Few modern cars record miles when being towed with key off or in Accessory. If the key is on, they would record miles.

My Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited does not rack up milage when engage in netural and the key is not turne on. Both gear shifts should be in neutral allowing all 4 wheels to turn freely.

Do not most of us have a disconnect for the battery? If so, then the odometer/speedometer, if electronic, should not be activated and would not record mileage no matter where the ignition key position is. Or, does the 15 amp bypass that allows trickle voltage that keeps the radio stations registered also enable the speedometer?

I do not disconnect batteries. I tow with the key in the on position and the tranny in neutral. The odometer does not change. I tow a Ford Explorer.
