Flat towing a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Hi there everyone,

We are the proud owners of a new Jeep Wranlger Unlimited. We are wondering, what do we need as far as a light wiring hookup to run between the Motorhome and the Jeep to run the turn signals on the Jeep from the motorhome?

Thanks in advance!

Safe travels

Flat towing a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

I bought a Blue Ox BX8869 Bulb and Socket Tail Light Wiring Kit. This requires you to to drill a hole in the taillights for the bulb placement and silicone it in place. Also don't forget to get the plastic wire protector to wrap the wires before you start tie wrapping it all in place. I bought a 6-pin medal connector for the front of the Jeep. You really only need a 4-pin but I wanted two extra pins in case I had to run a couple extra connections for whatever. Then I bought a Roadmaster (146-7) Flexo-Coil 7-Wire to 6-Wire Power Cord Kit. This kit comes with the 6-pin connector but its plastic.
Also, this cord is 8 ft, longer than some of the others I looked at.
What I like about this setup is the lights don't use any power off of the Jeep. I just did our new2us 2016 Wrangler Sport Unlimited and it works perfectly. We're towing with a Ready Brute Elite tow bar, so that and the light setup, nothing power wise is required from the Jeep battery. Here it is. Click image for larger version

Wow, you have great taste in Jeep Wranglers. Ours is also the Granite color! We chose it because it matches our motorhome! :-)

Safe travels!

I used the Hopkins wiring kit. Easy to install, plugging into rear tail lights and running the wires to the front of the Jeep. Installed in less than an hour taking my time to run it up the frame rail. Others on here recommend the Cool Tech and Mopar wiring kits.

I use Blue Ox base plate, M&G braking system, Hopkins wiring harness. Easy to install and fast to hook/unhook to coach.

I just installed the Mopar wire harness PN 82211156AB last week. It is more expensive & difficult to install, but after reading many tips on this forum, I integrated some of those along with a few things I learned & got it installed without issue. The advantage is that it is all Mopar so dealers can not use it as an excuse for denying warranty coverage of other electrical items.

FLSteve did a great write up of the Mopar towed vehicle harness.

I think post 15 of that thread is where the info begins....

I installed that harness using his instructions. All of your tail lights work...center too...uses coach power, no drain on Jeep battery. Tees into OEM connector. Only have to route wire thru firewall to passenger side kick panel...not the full length of the vehicle. I connected the front end of the harness to a Blue Ox 7 to 6 pin harness kit...which hooks up quickly and neatly.

I installed a Mopar harness just to make sure there was no problem with back feed into the wiring. It's made specifically for the Jeep and totally isolates the Jeep's wiring from the lights using relays. Here's a post I did a couple of years ago showing an easier way to get to the harness plug way up under the dash.

Does anyone else see when a post is referenced, it seems to be the wrong post. IOW, above talks about Mopar wiring through the firewall and the reference is Parks in the Rancho Santa Fe area. Wondering because I'm looking at these with Tapatalk and maybe it's the app or iRV2.
