Flat Towing Acadia?

Can some of you Acadia owners tell me which model of Acadia you are flat towing? I was told that not all models can be flat towed. I have been looking to trade my '07 Envoy (it flat tows perfect, but getting a lot of miles).

Hi Joe and Joan, and welcome to IRV2!

We have a 2010 Acadia SLT2, and it flat tows with ease behind out 2012 Discovery 36J. I'm not aware of any restrictions on the Acadia, other than a 65 mph limit, idle the engine 5 minutes before departure to lubricate the transmission, and again every fuel stop on the coach.

To make life easier, I installed a switch to disconnect the fuse otherwise recommended to be pulled so the battery isn't drained while driving. We use the SMI Air Force One braking system, which has proved to be excellent. No driver's floor box to install/remove when you head out on the road. Our tow bar is be Blue Ox.

Check out this link for the Motorhome Magazine annual review of towable vehicles:

It's Time for the 2012 Dinghy Guide

You'll see there's no limit on the 2012 Acadia. Hope that helps!

See you down the road...

Acadia

We are in the market for both an RV and a vehicle to dinghy tow. We're pretty sure we're going to go with a Winnebago 35J and need a vehicle to fit our family of 5. Considering the Acadia but want to know what modifications if any needed to be made to yours to make it flat towable. It looks like there isn't enough ground clearance. What is your experience?

No mods required. Follow the owner's manual instructions of running the engine for 5 minutes before towing, and remove the 50A fuse specified. Although the Acadia isn't meant of Jeep trails, we've never had a clearance problem. Love the Acadia!
