I tow a Ford Edge and believe the Flex has the same drive-line.

I tow a 2009 Ford Flex with front wheel drive. You can tow the front wheel drive Flex 4-down, not the AWD Flex. I have a Roadmaster Baseplate, Roadmaster Tow Bar, Brake Buddy and use a TowMate Lightbar.

It is easy to set up, hook up the towbar, switch on the lighbar, turn key to first position and put in neutral, that's it. It pulls fine and no problems. You can feel it there as it weight about 4,800 lbs, with full fuel.

Then there must be a difference between the FWD and AWD Flex. My AWD Edge tows fine 4-down.

Best bet is to check the manual under "Recreational towing".

Ask a Ford dealer to be sure or check the owner manual. We flat tow a 07 ford edge with no problems. Hook the car to the motor home, and I use a dummy key(one without the chip in the key)turn the key to the start position, put the gear selector to neueral, then turn the key back to the almost off or the removable position. The key with not come out of the switch until the selector has been put into park and the steering wheel will not lock. That way everything that has power to it shut off when you open the door, and you do not have to worry about someone stealing the car has the car will not start with the dummy key.

Sorry, you are all correct. The AWD can be towed 4 flat, but can't be towed on a dolly with just the front wheels off the ground.

FWD=4-flat, tow dolly or trailer
AWD=4-flat or trailer

Hi. I have a Ford Flex AWD with 10,000 driven miles and about 5000 mi. towed without any problems. It tows great. I just rotated the tires and they were wearing even.

I use a blue ox base and tow bar with US gear braking system. Takes 5 minutes to hook up and get going. I had a bra but it tends to scratch the paint if you aren't constantly making sure it's clean underneath. I'm going to look into a complete front cover that goes all the way up to and covers the windshield. If I don't like it I'll use a protecta-tow shield I had on my other towed. I'm just iffy about drilling a hole in the bumper to attach it. We'll see.

The Flex seats up to 7 adults comfortably. I have the captain chairs in the second row and can only seat 6. If I had to do it again I'd get the bench seat instead.

Exactly! The Flex is on the same platform as my 08 Taurus X AWD, not the Edge.

The owners manual says just what Jim has above.

If you use a brake box like the Brake Buddy, here is a good tip. In most cars the breakaway cable has to lay on the floor under your floor mat. If you look, there is a footrest for the driver's left foot. The pad on that footrest just lifts off and it contains some electronics in half of the box, the other half is empty. I had them bring the breakaway cable into that box. When not in use, the cable tucks nicely into that spot and I just put the pad back on. It is neat and out of site when not in use.
