Ford Explorer ignition switch position

Thanks to a previous poster, I was able to find a neutral tow kit for my 98 Ford Explorer.

After having it installed.... I was reading the instructions, and was surprized to see that it said that after putting the car in neutral, and depressing the brake until the neutral tow light is on steady.... to turn the ignition to off.

While this is great news as it will reduce some of the things that drain the battery, it is unlike what I've read in other posts about leaving the ignition in accessory.

Can someone towing an Explorer confirm that the instructions are correct and that the steering wheel will not lock up?

I don't have you set-up but the steering wheel lock must be off to tow.

Yes, I had a 98 Explorer Sport and the instructions are correct. As long as you are in neutral the key won't turn all the way over to lock the steering wheel (try it) but in Park it would lock. (of course you wouldn't try to tow in Park).
