Ford Explorer Transfer Case Question

Per the tow guides, a 4 door 2002 Ford Explorer is 4 down towable with the Neutral tow switch installed and ECM re-programmed at a Ford Stealership. The 2002 Ford Explorer Sport (2 door) is listed as NOT Towable. I look up the Ford Explorer transfer case part numbers for both of the above models and it is the SAME. So I conclude that the difference between the above two models is a different (Part Number) ECM and that is where the difference lies. So here's my questions (for Ford Mechanical Experts):

1. Is my conclusion right, i.e., different ECM's??

Here's the Important question if number one question is Right Conclusion.

2. Can a new 4 door Explorer ECM be switched into an Explorer Sport and thereby make it 4 down towable (after NTK & Re-programming???)???

Remco says you need a drive shaft coupling...Application Charts | Remco Towing
But check with Ford to be sure
