Also, what brand of bed cover did you go with?

Hey Tyboe,

Here's my topper. It's a Ford supplied product.

Not a drop of water gets in there. Quite impressed with it. Spring clips down and the tail gate locks. Stacks up towards the rear window held in place by props for when you need full cargo space. Cost was $1200 installed.

Towed the Platinum for the first time 4 down yesterday. Coach never even knew it was there. Never even breathed heavy on 12% grades.
This is my first DP and I'm really impressed with my Cummins 8.3 350hp ISC Turbo.

The Ready Brake and Ready Brute Elite tow bar was a snap to connect and in-hook. The truck tracked behind flawlessly and barely required any added arc to my turns. The only issue I haven't figured (and I'm uncomfortable with) is leaving the keys in the ignition. The problem, I can't lock my doors with key in ignition with power locks. I press the lock, trucks senses key in ignition and automatically unlocks. I wonder if there is an over-ride for this?

I have keyless entry so not worried about locking keys inside. I'll have to contact Ford I guess.

In my 2012 owners manual on pages 283-284, Recreational Towing, it says that you leave the key in the ignition, because you cannot remove it once you have gone through the towing sequence.

Can you lock the door locks though?

try pushing 7/8 9/0 on the keyless pad. im pretty sure this will lock the doors even if the ignition is turned on. Seems like I have locked and unlocked my doors with the engine running on my Ford vehicles.

Use your other remote key to lock the doors with the remote. That's what we do and it works great. No problem.

I'm convinced, almost. . .

I like this thread! So, I have this question to those of you who've made this decision to go to the F series trucks.

How did the decision affect your mileage while traveling? In the past I've towed a 28' auto trailer, then switched to 4 down with a Jeep Wrangler, a H2 Hummer, and currently a Mini Cooper. The worse MPG impact was with the H2 (pretty close to the same weight as an F-150), where I got an average of 5.9 MPG. With my Mini, it's upwards of 8.4. Obviously the F series has a little more room than a Mini, hence the query!

Although it can be argued that if you have to ask you can't afford it, I'm still curious if anyone took a big hit on thier fuel expense for the MH?
