I have a 2012 F150 FX4. I have towed it and never had a mile added on my odometer.

Well Gang,
What in the world is wrong with Ford? First, they don't make an F-150 flat towable for years while the other two, GM and Dodge, have been flat towable for years and years. Then, according to your posts, now that they finally got hit in the head and said "Ding" "lets make our F-150 Flat towable" but, lets also make it rack up the mileage while it's being towed?!?!

Don't get me wrong here, we (The DW and I both like Fords). We might have gone for the new Platinum model if we wouldn't have had to sell the house, first born, the motor home, my motorcycle etc. I mean, $53,000.00 for HALF TON PICKUP!!!!!!

So, we dropped back and punted. We ended up with a very nice GMC 1500 Sierra Extended Cab, 4x4 SLE. It's quiet, nice, clean, low miles, (right at 16K), still has warranty and is a beautiful RED. I did all the install of the base plate(s), and the Ready Brake components. I also did the wiring by tying into the factory tail lights and, it all works flawlessly.

But, back to the Fords. They do make a very nice, and nice looking truck. But, for some odd reason, they didn't make it flat towable for whatever length of time it has been since the 1/2 ton 4x4 had a manual shifted transfer case. Even the Ford Ranger 4x4 was not flat towable without the addendum of a "kit" and some re-programming of some components in the truck. And, from some limited research we did just prior to purchasing our GMC, it appears that the "kit" is only applicable to a certain group of years.

Now, also from what I understand, the Chevy Colorado, and GMC small pickup (forgot the name), both competition for the Ford Ranger, have also been flat towable in the 4x4 version for years. So, again, while we both really like the Fords, we had to back away because the new ones were/are just too expensive for our pocket book and, the older ones, '11 and below, are not towable.

Glad you boys got what you wanted but, I'd surely talk to Ford on the racking up of the mileage when being towed and see if something can be re-programmed to halt that issue. Good luck with your new trucks.
Scott

What position is the key when you are towing? Electrically, I cannot see where the PCM would be turned on in ACC mode when towing. The cluster will get the information from the PCM on vehicle speed through the HS-CAN (high speed can). If the PCM is not powered up the OSS sensor on the transmission should not be sending any information.

Or the Canadian version. My 2012 doesn't add while toad. Les may want your dealer to look into this as something might not be electronically disengaging. :-)

Thanks for all the feedback.

So, mostly "no" with one or two "yes"

I'm going with no. . .

Thanks everyone.

Either way, it's a beautiful truck! I absolutely love my Platinum.

Just be sure to follow the instructions in the vehicle manual regarding switching the transfer case to a neutral towing position. It's very easy!
