Ford Fiesta As A Toad

Any opinions about using a 2011/12/13 Ford Fiesta as a toad?

If the owner's manual says it's towable and you can find a base plate, why not?

Not sure about 4 down but we dolly our 2011 all over the place. No problem other than people telling us we have a twinke following us (it's yellow).

We have a 2013 Fiesta that we tow 4 down. It only weighs about 2,500 lbs and honestly tows so well you don't know it's there. You'll need a bayonet switch on the battery to disconnect it prior to towing and it tows by simply putting it in neutral.

However, Ford is having problems with clutch assemblies on their 6 speed automatic transmissions on Fiestas and Focuses. This is not related to towing but inherent in the transmission. We recently had our clutch assembly replaced due to increasing slippage at gear shifts.

But as a toad, it is a good fit.

This applies to the thread title, but not the specific question. For those of us looking to tow a 2014 Fiesta ST, it is not flat towable. The information takes a little research to find since most sites say all 2014 Fiestas are towable. I found it wasn't towable after buying the car.

The Fiesta ST is a hot version of the Fiesta. It has a 6 speed manual, revised suspension with vectoring via wheel braking and summer tires. It has 197 hp instead of 120 for the other Fiestas. I've never done anything but flat tow Jeeps, so it was a little disappointing when I learned that I'd need a dolly, but the car is worth the trouble. It's a lot of fun to drive, has four seats though it's only 3" longer than a Miata and has gobs of power. After 1200 miles, I'm pushing 33 mpg in something that feels like it ought to be illegal to drive on the street

As I said, check the owner's manual. Hopefully, before you buy it. Don't go by salesman's word, they might say anything to make a sale. If thinking of buying used and there's no manual, look for the manual on line.

I forgot to mention this, but the owner's manual does not say anything about the ST not being towable. I found it in a Ford RV and towing guide (PDF).

We also tow a 2012 Fiesta 4 down and coupled it with a Blue Ox base and tow bar, can hardly see the base plate when it's not hooked up. Great setup for us.
