Ford Flex lights

We have ordered a 2011 Ford Flex to tow behind our RV and I ordered the base plate and "wiring harness" from Blue Ox. There were a couple of options on their site and after speaking to someone at Blue Ox they told me what we would need to set her up to tow. NO ONE mentioned that the "wiring harness" would be a light bar! When it arrived at the dealers and we picked it up, we called Blue Ox and said "what's this?" They said, we don't make a wiring harness for a 2011 Ford Flex so you will have to use the light bar.....NO I, don't want to use a light bar. Can't really get a good answer from Blue Ox as to why there is not a wiring harness for this car. We called a place that does this kind of work and they said they can make a wiring harness for the Flex, but I just want to make sure it won't mess up any of the cars systems or computer before we send back the light bar. Hopefully we are not stuck with using a light bar on a new car. Can any of you out there clear this up before we move ahead. Thanks.

While I can not answer your question specifically have you given any thought to having extra bulbs installed in the rear light assemblies and wired in so as to leave the factory wiring undisturbed?

Ford Flex, depending the model has either standard bulbs or LED's so it depends on the model. We have a 2010 Mercury Milan with led's and got them working with a Roadmaster kit #154.
Now depending on the engine ECO-Boost or non, has two different baseplates according to BlueOx. I guess the difference is the openings in the front bumper.

Yes, adding extra bulbs was our first thought and therefore not interfering with the factory wiring. The only thing that may be a problem is if there is enough room to add an extra bulb. We were told that this is sometimes a problem. I guess we will just have to wait until the Flex gets here as it was a special order. I know I have the correct base plate. We do not have the eco boost so I ordered the correct base plate per Blue Ox's instructions. We are going to have hand controls and a lift for a Rascal scooter installed ASAP so then we will forge ahead and figure out how to hook up the lights without using a light bar. Thanks for your help guys!

I just drilled into the rear tail light lens from the back and siliconed in 1157 tail light bulb and socket and ran a 4 wire run up to the front plug. $25 at the most. Autozone parts. Too much trouble with diodes.

If go to the BlueOx website and look up your baseplate you can look at the install instructions and on page 3, there's a picture of the extra bulb installed in the non-led taillight.

Our Lincoln MKT is a close cousin to your Flex. Ours has the tow package and the wiring points to tie the lights in to the factory wiring are clearly shown in the factory electrical manual. Tying in our lights required the use of 3 diode blocks and direct wiring all under the hood. No special harness required and no cutting of wires. Suggest you find someone that knows your vehicle and can do this job right.

When correclty connected all running lights work as designed along with the center stop lamp.
