Ford focus as a tow vehicle
Looking to find it if a 2013 (approx) Ford Focus would make a good tow vehicle?

Are you going to tow it or use it to tow something? I would assume that since it's in the "toad" forum that you plan to tow it, which would make it a "towed" or "toad"

I have a 2012 Focus and tow it on a dolly, Never know it's back there.

We have towed a Focus since 2006, of course it has a manual trans where today you can tow the auto trans. It's very easy to hook up and tow. Gets great MPG for those side trips.

Wercmpn. We tow a 2012 focus hatchback with the ReadyBrute system.. After 10k miles there are no issues. It's a great towed vehicle as well as a great all purpose car.
I installed a battery shut of switch on the negative cable under the hood. Put the automatic transmission in neutral, disconnect battery, and off you go! I installed a light kit and harness (separate bulb type) very easily.

I have towed my 2012 focus about 6000 miles with no problems

Just bought a new se focus manual transmission. set it and forget it. Im not screwing around with a automatic, and all the crap that goes with it.

07 Focus 5 speed tows great , never had a problem.

I suggest you contact your Ford Dealer for the OEM response before you buy.
I went looking at a 2013 Explorer a while back and was told my the dealer that the 13's are no longer towable. He said Ford has made changes to the drive train and now if you want to tow, you need a Transmission Lube Pump for about $3500.
Can't say if the Focus or others are the same but you need to get it from the dealer.

That only applies to the drivetrain with the 2.0L Ecoboost engine with the 6F35 transmission. The Explorers with the 3.5 and 3.7L V6's are able to be flat towed.

OK, but, I still would not go out and buy any vehicle to tow without getting the skinny directly from the Horses Mouth.

Bought my 2012 Focus specifically to tow,( then promptly failed to get it set up to do so). I did a LOT of shopping and the Focus fit all my criteria, one of which was to be towable 4-down without modification.

I agree with dennis45, Ford has changed on some models and I just read on here of a fellow that had a so called towable Ford and ended up buying two new transmissions, one on the trip out, the other on the trip back. Either read it in the owner's manual or get a letter from Ford.

A salesman is not the horses mouth and I work at a Ford dealer and also worked at Ford at SEO. However, when all else fails, read the owners guide. It states it right in there on page 302. The transmission in the V6 Explorer is the same 6F50/55 that is in the Edge, Taurus, and Flex that have a lot of history of successful flat towing.
