Is it true that ANY front wheel drive manual transmission car can be towed four wheels down with no modifications (such as lube pumps, etc.) or special procedures (such as running the car for x minutes every y miles)?

I've read online that it is not true. Unfortunately I don't have an example to name for you. The explanation I heard was that the hydraulic clutch used in some front drive manuals can overheat - basically the same problem as with an auto. I don't know if this is accurate, though.

I had assumed that I could tow my Mini Cooper S with front-wheel drive and 6 speed manual trans. I checked with the manufacturer and the answer was a resounding NO. They indicated that flat towing would set off a handful of electronic sensors that would screw up the computer. Their admonition, as well as being told that the warranty would not cover any damage caused has made me not willing to take a chance.

The fifth one: "Never tow faster than 100 MPH-stay within posted speed limits so you don't get a ticket." is a real charm.

Are there Class A MH drivers out there crazy enough to take a 10-20 ton fiberglass box down the road at over 100 MPH? With or with out a toad?

I did a rough calculation and it would take about a 400 HP engine running flat out. That I would have to see, from a very safe distance, to believe.

Any way, thanks for the info. I called the dealer and they said yes. Now, if they only they will put it in writing...
