If its a 5 speed the trans goes in neutral and the 4x4 selector is in neutral, key in acc. Towed them things all over the country have an XL7 now thats been to Cal twice and who knows how many times to Fla I guess it has 50+K miles behind the bus.

Don, I thought you were the tow dolly guy? Have you decided to come over to the flat side? 2 different options on the transmission gear choice, what a surprise. I was paranoid at first to tow my Trackatara with the drive shaft on. Yes I have a 2000 but the design of the trans/trans case is the same as your old one. I put my trans in Park (auto) and my transfer case in neutral. key is on and I have a battery disconnect. i have towed many miles and am not always good about remembering to start the vehicle to lubricate.

I tow the Tracker on a trailer. On Tracker trips we go off road and there's a chance of breaking something that would render the Tracker not towable plus the Tracker's got a 4:24 transfer case, would hate to tra$h that.. Tomorrow we leave for a short trip and I will be dollying the Neon.

I was confused, I thought you were interested in flat towing, I should have known better. and I am getting old. I have them gears as well and no problems. I do not care for trailers. steve56 enjoy the tracker, it is a great vehicle, easy to tow.

We own a 1995 Geo Tracker 4x4 and have been flat towing it for 14 years with 2 Motorhomes. It is a 5 speed Manual and the Owners Manual says to put Transfer Case in Neutral and Transmission in 5th Gear. Been doing that for its entire life with no problems.
