We have just bought a 2006 Envoy for a toad.

Anyone use one, and if so, are there any tips you would like to pass along?

Do you have to pull the fuse to stop the odometer?

Mike,
I tow an 05 ENVOY XUV 4X4. I tow the vehicle 4 down. Because it is 4 wheel drive, I do nothing but put the transfer case into neutral. If your ENVOY is 4 wheel drive the process should be the same. Look in the owners manual. It provides a step by step proceedure for putting the transfer case into neutral and returning it to the driving position.

If your ENVOY is two wheel drive, the owners manual will provide the proceedure (if there is one), to tow with the drive wheels on the ground.

For my ENVOY there are no fuses to pull. The odometer does not measure mileage with the ignation off and the transfer case in neutral.

If you're running a diesel with a 10,000 pound tow rating, you're all set. Regarding tow bars and equipment consider the Blue Ox Aventa II or the new Aventa LX. The baseplate on the toad would have removable tabs and it almost disappears when not in use.

We tow an '05 GMC pickup 2 wheel drive. We installed a Remco tranny pump because they did not make a driveshaft disconnect for the 5" driveshaft. After much experimenting I ended up installing a battery disconnect switch to keep mileage from accumulating.
I use a Brake Buddy and installed a 12V receptacle that I connect when I hookup the hitch. BB runs off the coach battery.

We just got one two and are getting ready to get it ready to tow. We called Ford and made sure we had the GCVW to pull and they said we had a 26,000 and our loaded motorhome was probley about 17,000 give or take of few pounds . I called Winnie and they said as long as We did not go over 5,000 that the hitch was rated we would be fine . I pulled a 4,100 pound Buick on a tow dolley so I had to be close to the 5,000 pounds going on a 1,800 miles trip to Myrtle Beach and did just fine . I have seen alot of Explores and jeeps that are around the 4,500 to 4,900 lbs that are pulled by gas motorhomes. We looked at smaller suv and me at 6'3" the Views and Hondas where just to small for me . We have a new Trailblazer and love it and can not waite to tow it . Hope this helps

We had checked to insure that we were within the regulations.

As I said, we love the vehicle. We drove it from Amarillo to Tucson just after buying it. We have had our tow base installed and are waiting to get the wiring done. We had towed a Grand Cherokee for 40,000 miles. We enjoyed the GC but wanted a bit larger vehicle.

This is a update . We just had our 2006 4x4 Trailblazer weighed at 4,700 pounds with 1/2 tank of gas. Most truck stops will do this . My cost was $8.50 .

Many models of towbar are also rated at 5000# and these 4700# vehicles put them close to their limits. Throw some extra gear in the back of the vehicle and you are at 5000# or greater.
