Has anybody towed a Wrangler with 35" tires any distance?
Wife and I are headed to Alaska, and she's insisting we tow our Wangler Unlimited instead of our current Toad - our 2013 Ford Fiesta. Now, she's right on several levels here, so I don't intend to sound like I'm throwing her under the bus (or RV in this case), but... The concern is the Wrangler has 35" tires. Am I gonna chew these up?
Anyone have any experience?
Thanx...

WE have a 2009 Wrangler. I can't remember the exact metric size, but they equal 35" BF Goodrich M/T's. I rotate them every 3000 miles and her last set got over 80 miles on them. The new ones have been towed over 5000 miles and you can't tell. As long as the jeep tows straight (good alignment prior) you should be fine.

Snowboater,
35s are getting to be the minimum size for a very large percentage of Jeep's being towed now days. We've towed 9 different Jeeps over a 35 year period and two of them, including our present one, a '15 JKUR, sported/sports 35" tires. There's absolutely NO ISSUE towing a Jeep with that size tires on it. We've towed all over the western U.S. with a Jeep with those tires on it and, there's ZERO indication of any additional tire wear or, odd front end behavior.
The ones on our present Jeep, are 315 x 70 x 17" Hancook Dynapro All Terrains which, are the exact same as a 35" in total diameter and mounted height. You'll have no issues.

We tow our jeep on 33's everywhere. If all is right with the jeep and the towing setup you will be fine.

Jeep
Snowboater, my wife and I did Alaska last year towing a 2000 model Jeep Wrangler with 16's on it. No problems except that I didn't use proper shielding of the tow vehicle. The rock chips in the front grill and taking out my 2 fog light lenses and a couple of chips in the Jeep windshield is all we had and that was my fault. No issues with the coach, 2015 Entegra, it came back in perfect condition. If I went again I would make sure that I installed a shield on the tow arm to protect the front of the jeep and then I would put something over the front windshield just as added protection. What caught my eye on your post was the jeep and tire size, I just bought a used one and I will follow your thread because I'm in the same situation now with the bigger tires. I saw lots of Jeep toads with big tires behind rigs on this trip. The roads were just as nice going thru Canada and Alaska as they are here going thru the lower 48. Yes, there were several different areas that we went thru that were gravel, because they were under repair, but for the most part those gravel sections were only a couple of hundred yards long then you were back on blacktop. The only exception to that was up in the Yukon where we drove on gravel for 3-4 miles and thats where I got my damage to the jeep windshield and lights. Buy the book called the "MILEPOST" and it will assist you all the way up there and back. There's a wealth of information in the book. Not to change the subject but we just bought a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara and I'm wondering what kind of tow bar you have. I currently have a "ROADMASTER" on my 2000 model jeep but it looks like it will not work on the newer model jeep that I have, unless I make some modifications to the front end. Any suggestions? Safe travels on your Alaskan trip and don't worry about the roads, they are just like here in the states and in some places even better.

Over 125,000 towed miles on two Jeep Wranglers with 35" tires with no problems.

I have 315-70-17 BF Goodrich Radial All Terrain tires on my 2012 Wrangler Unlimited, which I regularly tow. I just replaced them with a new set I got 55,000 driving miles, and many more being towed on the first set.
