Help before I screw up my new GMC truck!

Ok guys Newbie here with some questions. 2016 GMC Sierra 1500 4x4 7Z1 as toad. Trying to figure out the correct procedure for towing. I think I have it figured out.

Hook vehicle to rv
Put on parking brake.
start vehicle
step on brake
shift transmission to neutral
shift over to the far right with transfer case switch and hold
vehicle goes into N
release button into 4 down
shift into park
turnoff vehicle
put key in on position.
Hit battery disconnect switch. (had one installed)
release parking brake
Tow away.

Now this is my first tow set up. Does that look right above? do you do anything with the steering wheel? (bungee cord?) I am using the air force one braking system. I had the truck side installed here where I live, the coach side has not been set up yet. Having it done when I pick up the coach in a couple of weeks 200 miles away. Thanks for your help or suggestions. The owners manual is clueless (or I am) Cheers!

I have a GMC 2500 4x4 and your sequence sounds correct to me. Leaving the ignition in the on position keeps the steering wheel unlocked which is required for the truck to follow the coach.

One extra step that I perform to ensure that the transfer case is fully disengaged is to place the trans in D and R after selecting N on the transfer case and give it a little gas with my foot on the brake and make sure the engine revs freely. Then put it in park. Sometimes the electronic systems says its disengaged but the gear set can bind.

The procedure should be in your owner manual under Recreational Towing. I think all GM owner manuals have a section for that, even if it just says "NO WAY!".

I can't help with the transfer case shifting; to neutral; , I'll let someone with hands on , comment on that .
I will say that nothing gets attached to the steering wheel that would restrict the steering action of the truck as it follows the coach.

We have a self made law that says my wife has to be next to the toad as I pull forward and she makes sure ALL the wheels are turning.

You can also see them turning when you make a sharp turn.

I have the 15 model. After putting the transfer case in neutral I leave the transmission in neutral also, this makes sure that the key never moves and will never lock the steering wheel

You need to pit the transmission in park so that static drag doesnt turn the transmission as its getting no lube when not running. Might never be an issue but not worth the chance.
