Angry Help! My Pivoting plate dolly is touching my mini van fenders

It's our first time using a tow dolly, purchased a 80" wide tow dolly for our Nissan Quest with a swivel/pivoting plate. We did a practice run and the dolly is running into my fenders of my mini van. After doing some research we locked the steering wheel with the seat belt (since this steering wheel does not lock), and it still is touching the fender evening the slightest turn and my steering wheel looks like it is going to bust. So, what do we do from here:

Should we weld on an additional piece of sheet metal to the plate to make the pivot less (this would make it it hit the bumper guard sooner instead of my fenders)

Or

Should we make the pivoting plate not pivot by drilling a whole and bolt through the plate and frame?

What type of tow dolly do you have? I have a Kar Kaddy SS and it has a no swivel pin that I can use if I wish.

We bought a Tow Max, it only swivels . No way to make it non-swivel unless we drill and bolt the swivel plate down. It's a wide one too, 84" inside fender to inside fender

You might call Tow Max headquarters and see what they think about a no swivel pin. I know they want tell you to drill as that would invalidate the warranty but they might have an accessory that you can purchase to make it no swivel.
