HHR # 8 Fuse
Just bought a 2009 HHR. Does pulling the #8 fuse protect against battery drain and not register mileage when towing or just battery drain?
Thanks
Cliff

None of todays cars with electronic speedos should register mileage with the key in the ACC position. I suspect the fuse is to eliminate battery depletion.
It shouldn't be too hard to find out - just pull it around the block with the fuse in place.

I installed a fuse switch on Fuse #8 in our HHR and even after towing 8+ hours I've never had an issue with the battery going down (no charge line).
Also - it does not register miles while towing.

I towed today for the first time with the HHR , actually it was a test run as I just installed the base plate. It does register mileage with the #8 fuse in. I installed a switch to that fuse and when we switched off the fuse it did not register the mileage. Case solved.
Thanks to all who responded.

Thanks for the feedback, Cliff. Now we know for sure.
Surprised to hear the answer, though. That's unusual.

I towed my 09 HHR 950 miles from Louisiana to northern Arkansas, and it did not register mileage. I towed with the trans in neutral and key in acc position.

Very jnteresting.
I towed mine around the camp ground and registered 2 tenths when the fuse was on and then again with the fuse off and no mileage was registered.
I'll have to give it a more extensive test when we take it out for a longer drive.
Thanks for the feed back.

I can tow mine for 2 days with or without the 8 fuse in (I have a switch installed now to turn off the 8 fuse), with no effect on starting the HHR, HOWEVER, the third day will drain the battery every time, thus I installed the switch and no more problems. The speedo does NOT register on mine with the fuse in or out, on or off. Interesting. Gene

Where do ya all find this "switch". I tried 4-5 auto parts like car quest advanced auto and they think this old woman is nuts. Help with part number, store, anything! The fingers are sore from pulling that tiny little bugger. Any and all help greatly appreciated.
