I use one made by Master Lock rated at 10,000 lbs, I tow a 3,150 lbs HHR. I have not heard of a tow bar being stolen, doesn't mean it hasn't happened. But I have heard of a hair pin being pulled as a "joke". It does give piece of mind.

Yes, happened to me once. I left the rest area, and shortly after that I saw the toad wandering all over the place. Someone had removed or opened one of the pins holding the car to the tow bar. All that was holding the car in place was one pin in one of the arms. I installed Master Locking pins (keyed alike) after that experience!

Blue Ox also sells a set that has 2 locking pins for the drawbar, and 2 locking pins for the car connection to the tow arms. All 4 are lockable with the same key. I needed the double locking drawbar pins to use my bike carrier with my tow bar.

It's a $172 fine here for driving around with the tow bar on and no trailer. I use the Masterlock Pin.

You can find the locking pins at WalMart in their rv and towing section.
