I want to trade in my 2005 Saturn Vue on a CRV. The salesman tells me the awd is the only one approved for towing. The 2013 Dingy Towing guide from MotorHome says that both are approved for towing. What about years 2011 and 2012, are they approved as well?

2012 & 2013 models all are are fine. There are some oddities in AWD vs 4WD in earlier years so a review of the owner's manuals would be in order. Still, I think all CRVs are good candidates for use as a dinghy. Besides, what do salespeople know anyway?

There are a couple threads already dedicated to the 2012-2013 CRVs

You can download owner's manuals for all the CRVs (and probably every other car) online. A Google search will give you locations. We looked at 2012 models when they first came out and all were towable four down.

I have a 2012 CRV front wheel drive and the manual specifically approves towing. You go thru a sequence which takes about 5 minutes and then you're good to go.

We have a 2013 crv, and it seems to me the owners manual states that only the awd is towable 4 down. Will check my book again and if wrong I will repost.

Wrong, the only thing it says is if towing the awd model it MUST be towed 4 down.

Our 2012 is towable 4 down. We didn't buy it for that purpose though.

Crv2013

I owe one 4wd. Same as 2012.
Salesman told me to stay away from previous models if possible.
Very please with it , I tow it behind a MH.
More than happy on MPG, almost half of my 2008 Highlander ( which is a V6)
