Are your instrument lights on when you put the key in the ACC position? If the are not on you shouldn't be running up miles. If they are on you have another problem.

We tow a 2014 CRV and I leave the key in ACC and it does not rack up miles.

I think Sky Boss hit the nail on the head. I think you have the key in the Run position and not in the ACC position. The ACC position is one click from Off, while the Run position is two clicks. If this is not the case, then you definitely have a problem--the CRV is not supposed to accumulate miles in the ACC position.

When we finish the gear shift procedure and leave it in Neutral, the key will only turn back one position!

If the only reason you're leaving the key in ACC is to keep a 12V outlet hot and not to keep the steering from locking, all you need to do is install a new 12V outlet that is hot all the time. I had to do that in our Equinox because the 12V outlets in front only stayed hot when the key was ON.

This is still a big mystery to me. I guess all these guys that have answered my original post, saying that their CRV's do not accrue miles when being towed obviously aren't using a "Brake Buddy" or something similar? It sure seems to me if you have the ignition switch in the acc position, you are powering the ABS and or computer for the odometer?
Yes, I suppose I could install some sort of stand alone 12V system, but it seems I would still have to turn the key to the acc position to keep the steering unlocked?
Is everyone else towing their CRV's with the steering locked?

Ok, maybe, but I believe in my CRV there are three positions, 1, acc and run/start?

Yes, correct, but one position back from run is acc...hence the problem.

I'm not sure about the instrument lights as I usually only drive during the day, but I can tell you the digital clock and or Nav display are on in the acc position.

Yes, in the acc position, (number II) everything is powered. Number 1 position only the Nav display comes on, which I can turn off. Not sure if the 12V plugs are powered in the number I position though.

Yes, mine is exactly like that...3 positions...I...II and III/start. Once started it flips back to the II/ACC position.

I use a Patriot by Blue Ox which uses power from the cig lighter socket. Per the owners manual, I run the engine and shift to drive, 2, 1 and back into Neutral.
Shut the engine off with the key in the Acc position. Set up the Patriot and off we go.
It does NOT accumulate mileage. If you leave the key in the run position, (engine off) you will see the headlights on. If that's the case you WILL accumulate mileage.
