We are considering a CRV for a toad. However, one of the requirements we have is that the vehicle have a 2" receiver on it. The reason for this is that we want to use the same bike rack on both the MH and the toad. Does anyone know if a 2" receiver can be put on a CRV?

flyfisher : suggest you go to www.hitchfinder.com and see what they offer for the crv. But I'd be susprised if there isn't one available. I know you said for bike rack, but don't let that big receiver tempt you into towing more than 1500 with the crv.

You can also probably get a shop that builds hitches to make you one. But I doubt that you will find one for the CR-V as they don't have much of a tow rating. We love our CR-V but towing isn't it's strong point. You may find that most good choices for a toad don't have hitches with a 2" receiver available.

No problem. We have a 2" on our 2003 CRV and have not had any problems. Tow a lightweight utitity trailer. Mostly garden supplies.

Thanks for the information. By the way, I am not going to tow anything. I want the 2" receiver so that I can use the same bike rack on both the MH and the toad without using any adapters etc.I have found a 2" receiver available on the Internet. Now, I just have to negotiate the price on the CRV.

I just purchased a 06 CRV and am going through the difficulty of finding a reasonable 2 bike rack for it. I went to U-Haul and had a 1 1/4 inch hitch installed but now the Bell 2-bike rack I bought will not clear the spare tire on back of the CRV. I think I can find an adapter to go from my 1 1/4 inch receiver to a 2 inch but don't know if it will still allow the rack to clear the spare tire. I should have tried a spare tire mount rack which is available. Good Luck!

You can also buy an adapter to downsize the bike rack from a 2" to 1 1/4" hitch.

You can get an adaptor from U-Haul that ges from a 1 1/4" to 2" for $25. It will stick out about 6" or so and hopefully will get it out far enough past your spare tire hanging on the back.
I just put a Suzuki 2" receiver hitch on my wifes Grand Vitara and have to put an extension on it for probably the same bike rack you are talking about.
That tire hanging off the back is something I don't like about these things.
I thought the Grand Vitara was about the same size as the CRV and the GV is rated for up to 3000lbs.

Since 2006 the CRV has had the spare tire mounted inside.

We use a Thule 2-bike rack with a 1 1/4" shank bolted into a 2" extension of 6" or so. We use a locking hitch pin to attached the rack to the CRVs or coach. It clears the '05 CRV's spare tire. One downside of using a hitch pin to secure the rack to the receiver instead of the bolt is that it will tend to wobble...

We had a local hitch dealer install a Draw Tite 2 inch hitch. We too had a Thule rack when we bought this CRV and did not want to have to add any extensions. We have used it once without any problems. Works great.
