The reason you don't see many being towed is because Honda didn't sell many of them, and compared to the CRV it just wasn't as nice a vehicle to drive.

Follow the instructions in the owner's manual and they tow just fine. Don't follow the instructions and you will be buying a transmission.

The Honda Element hasn't been made for five years, so you will be seeing even less of them.

Thanks

We really like the idea of storing our bikes in the toad rather than on a bike rack.
I wondered if they were too light and did not tow well. Sounds like you are riding in a tin can, but not for everyday use its ok.

We always carry our bikes inside our toad. Our Honda CR-V is one of the few flat towable vehicles where this is possible. We do have to remove the front wheels of course.

gilcolog-

Here is a link to a Google search of iRV2 posts with the phrase "Honda Element" in them.

I have seen some iRV2 user signatures that indicate people do tow Elements.

Honda made the Element from 2003 through 2011. We own a 2003 EX AWD (automatic), and have found it a remarkably versatile vehicle. Yes, it's interior is spartan, and perhaps noisy, but neither do you have to worry about spills, stains and scratches. We've carried both bikes and kayaks inside, with the hatch closed.

Our model year may be towed four-down. We would have put a braking system into it instead of the Honda Fit (getting much better ground clearance), but for the fact that our former coach was limited to towing 3,400 pounds and the Element is heavier than that.

We like our Element so much that it will be a sad day when we have to give it up.

We have towed a 4wd auto, element flat down for the past few years. Zero issues and we find it works out great to ferry our 88 lb German Shepherd around. Its boxy....but its good.

I towed a 03 for a few yrs it was a good toad but you are right the road noise is pretty loud but we loved the room with the seats up, we hauled 14 bushels of apples from TN and 16 bushels of oranges from Plaqumines parish LA without any problem.

Ours is a great toad. 05 Standard tranny.
We don't find it overly noisy but because of its box shape and wheel base its certainly not a car to drive for a long road trip as it does get pushed by strong winds.
We do find that we need to keep the tires rotated and check the alignment every year so the tires wear OK
Unless we fall into a smokin hot deal on a used CRV we're keeping her.
