Honda Element
I have a 2008 Honda Element. Honda doesn't certify this vehicle as towable. However, I've heard mixed answers when asked if it can be towed on all 4's. Honda certified the 2005 and previous models as towable, but quit in 2006. Any advice?

We had the same issue. Wanted some sort of warranty, but wanted the Element as well. Go to the Honda dealers in your area and search for 'certified used cars'. We found an 03 the dealer certified and we have an additional warranty as well.

I believe they were towable through the 05 model year (if AWD). We have an 04 and have over 30k mi towing and another 36+k mi driving.
Only problem we ever had on the hoda was a vtec solenoid that was replaced this year for $160 at a dealer.

Honda Techs I've talked to say Honda did not change transmissions after 2005 other than going to a 5 speed auto the same as the CRV (which is still towable). (note: neither the automatic nor the stick shift is listed as towable 2006 on) They suggested it may be the front end chassis metal configuration was modified (cheapened?) so that the newer ones won't allow a tow bar to be safely attached.

More than likely Honda just decided they were getting too many transmission warranty claims that may have been caused by towing.
Note that Honda was always careful to say they hadn't tested or approved of towing for any of their vehicles. When they finally did say something, it was "NO". The CRV was probably excepted to avoid loss of sales, since it is a popular toad.

Tell ya what.....we'd certainly buy another Element IF Honda once again O.K.'d it for towing 4-down. We've found it to be a great toad both for it's storage (ie., 2 full sized bikes upright in back, etc.) and for it utility in getting around whether freeway driving or backroad exploring.
Wish HONDA would re-instate towability for the Elements. :(

It is my under standing that the Element and CRV have the same drive-trains. If you check the Roadmaster site for mounting bases, the 02-04 CRV base-plate fits the 03-08 Element which tells me the Element sheet metal is strong enough to tow and has not been changed. Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories
The Remco site indicated the 03-08 Elements are towable with no mods. 2003 - 2008 Honda Element | Remco Towing

We tow a 2006 manual tranny Element with no problems. Our dealer told us the drivetrain was the same as the CRV, which is listed as towable. 10,000 miles with no issues so far.

Does anyone know if there is a "lube pump" available for purchase for use with our 2006 Honda Element? We know Remco doesn't. Since Honda states that year is not towable we thought by putting in a lube pump would help? Help.....
