Honda Fit not on FMCA List?

I just got the new issue of the FMCA magazine. In the round-up of vehicles that can be towed, the Honda Fit is not on the list. I know that there are people on this forum who have towed the Fit.

Any thoughts or information? Has Honda changed something? I am thinking of buying one specifically for towing behind a new Class C.

The redesigned Fit won't be introduced into the US until the summer of 2014. I think anything sold before then will be labeled a 2013 model. New Honda Fit on sale in summer 2014 - Autoweek

The FMCA list is not all inclusive of all cars that can be towed. For one thing they tend to list only vehicles that can be towed without modification beyond addition of a base plate or tow bar and lights. So any vehicle that can be towed with the addition of a REMCO LP-1, axel lock or drive shaft disconnect does not get listed.

Second. there are many companies that simply do not tell FMCA their cars are towable for one reason or another.

docj has it right. The 2014 model is supposed to have CVT transmission but it is also no supposed to be sold in the US until Summer at the earliest. The 2013 models are towable.

I flat towed a 2012 FIT with no mods to transmission. I believe the 2013 model was identical, but I have heard rumors of a major redesign for 2014.

Thanks all for the replies. If I move on the Fit, I'll look for a 2013 or older. Not interested in any modifications to make it towable.

We just bought the '13 Fit Sport in A/T to flat tow. The manual does provide for towing behind a MH on all fours. I just ordered the 5 components to setup the Fit to be towed for $1700 delivered. With a buddy and some moderate mechanical skills and you will save a ton in labor.

You may also want to seriously look at the price difference's between and new 2013 and some of the older models. Prices are very close. We decided on the 2013 because used prices where not that much less. The Fit is a very popular model.

mine is a little older but i believe 2009-2013 are virtually the same. no mods for me and set up was easy. a nice little but versatile toad i was satisfied with.

Correct on the '09-'13 model range. As for a Toad, the Fit is a great light weight reliable vehicle.

have a 33 ft thor palazzo and tow a honda fit, with blue ox system, tried uiseing the, in the car brake system, the arm didnt fit the brake petal very well, its really designed for a larger vehicle, any way, i dont use the brake system at all, the rv tows and brakes just fine without it.

We use an RVi2 brake and it works perfectly with the Fit. Driving without Toad braking is just not safe - I suggest you contract your brake manufacturer for some help.

Have been towing our 2009 fit since we bought in 2009. Use Roadmaster baseplate & Falcon2 Allterrain bar. Also have SMI braking system, works great. Have had absolutely no problems.

this is exact setup with mine except the brake - i found it's so hard to access the brake master cylinder so i ended up with an rvibrake. it works as best i could expect.
