How hard to find a used base plate?

Hi...just wondering if people sell used base plates for a Blue Ox Aventa, or if that's just wishful thinking...I'm presently trying to find an older jeep Cherokee (not Grand) as a Toad, as I know they have good longevity and are relatively inexpensive and light (around 3000 pounds I think).
thanks for any insights!

Look on Craig's list, eBay, Hitch Trader - Buy - Sell -Trade - Free Classified Ads. You might also post a 'Wanted' ad on Craig's list for the base plate you need.

I think your estimate of the weight of a Jeep Cherokee is light, my VW beetle weighs 3800 lbs.

Our '97 Jeep GC weighed somewhere around 4,500#'s even with the four wheel drive setup.

Sorry, I just checked again, the Beetle is 2,800 lbs, not 3,800. Also, make sure you use all new fasteners with a used baseplate, no telling the condition of the old ones unless you've got your own metallurgical lab.

As mentioned, Graig's list and e-bay are great places to start, but also look at local classified and sales networks. Buying used took us a little time as we have a 2004 Grand Cherokee Limited with trail package and the base plate for the 2004 is unique only to that year/model.

Go to the Blue Ox web site and plug in the different years/make/model that you are interested in and the site will give you the Base Plate number. If that base plate is used on several years/models you will have an easier time finding one. The Blue Ox web site also list the type of wiring kit needed for the toad lights but we beat their price by searching elsewhere.

Be patient and you'll find what you need. Also, hope you bought the Aventa used as we did and we also found a great by on a used Brake Buddy.

Heads up folks, I sold my used Jeep baseplate a couple of weeks ago, right here on IRv2 in about 5 hrs. after posting the ad, via the Classified section. I would look here before Craigs list or Ebay, but check often if looking, mine went fast. You can also post a "Wanted" ad here and it is free. Really a captured market here with RV interests in mind. I have sold a number of items I did not need, in the past. Best place to sell and look.

When I had my Ford Focus, I did a search on eBay and found a used one for $100.

chose my path, hope it works

Thanks all, for your informative replies.
As it turned out I found a Jeep Liberty for a good price, that was already fitted with a Demco base plate and Excali-bar. (this swayed my choice away from a Jeep Cherokee toad, even though the latter is 600 pounds lighter, and the Liberty is a bit of a porker). I also found a new near Patriot brake for less than half price, so I should be set....in theory at least
