How hard to install a baseplate
Can anyone tell me how hard it would be to install a Demco baseplate on an 05 Jeep Liberty. Easy enough to do myself or should I pay the $350 to have it done?

If you're handy, it should be straight forward.
Does it require drilling? relocating anything? Have a peek at the instructions which I'm sure are on their website.
Here's a video on a liberty

I have installed a few, mostly Blues. Helps to have help, plenty of room, floor jack and proper tools. Not bad with the directions and U tube videos that are available.
Take your time.

Actually, I just put in a Blue Ox base plate on our 05 Liberty. Not hard, really. Some of the holes are already there. Just drill through two more holes and bolt it up; that part's easy. If you need to set up the lights and brakes, there are separate kits for that.

If you check the Blue OX website, they rate the difficulty of installation for all of their baseplates.

You might want to check the info provided by eTrailer at this site Base Plates for 2005 Jeep Liberty - Blue Ox BX1122
There is a video for the 2006 Liberty that may or may not be the same or close to your 2005. In any case it should give you some idea as to the degree of difficulty.

I just installed a blue ox on my 2005 Jeep Liberty. Did it by myself with the help of a floor jack to support the bumper/fascia. It took me a little longer than some. I think that was because i was solo. Not that difficult. Since I did the install I know I have everything bolted secure and torqued correctly. Peace of mind and saved $350. I also installed the wire harness so another $100 or more savings. I would rather spend money on things I can't do myself. Youtube videos were big help. Check e-trailer for a video also. 2006 same as 2005.

I did it on my Saturn Vue in the garage. Had to drill two holes, but it was pretty straight forward with the instructions. And I didn't need to jack it up.

Just installed the Roadmaster baseplate kit on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee today. Not bad. The youtube video from etrailer was excellent and great supplement to the Roadmaster instructions. Having a lift would make easier but I used ramps to raise the work.

Like everybody here, if your handy you should be able to complete the job. Just watch videos and follow the instructions to the tee. I did my own on my 04 CRV and have peace in mind NO short cuts were taken. One other note...make sure you disconnect the neg battery cable just in case, for items like air bags, 5 mph bumper (safety bumpers). Yeah I know they work off small gas or gel filled shock absorbor, better be safe than sorry. Good luck.
