How long will the wait be?

I am picking up our new 2016 Grand Cherokee today. Unfortunately, Blue Ox is saying a baseplate for a 2015 won't fit a 2016. I'm on the East coast and a trip to Blue Ox in Nebraska isn't feasible, besides they told me they already have someone having their brand new GC delivered to them from the factory for the test fit and mock up of the new baseplate. Of course they can't / won't tell me when that is scheduled to happen.

My question is for any of you that have been in a similar position of waiting for a new model baseplate to be created. How long does it take them to make the new baseplate available to the general public? The people I talked to at Blue Ox weren't able to give me any time frames.

If the wait time is a month or two, that won't be too bad. Any longer than that would cause some issues with trips that are already planned.

We went through that in 2006 when we bought a new model (the GMC Acadia). I made arrangements with Blue Ox to install their prototype at my local Blue Ox dealer (a hitch shop). The date was open-ended, but the actual wait was about 6-7 weeks. They can whip up a new base plate design in a day or two at their factory shop, so it's only a question of when they get their hands on the new vehicle. However, they have no control over when the other person actually brings the car in. Or if he changes his mind.

Try to contact the person who actually handles their new vehicle program and see if you can get on a list to receive and "test" the new base plates. They worked with me ok. Or at least get notified when it is available. It also helps if you have a hitch professional that has a working relationship with Blue Ox (not typically an RV dealer).

As it turns out, Blue Ox now says the same base plate will fit the 2011 - 2015 Grand Cherokee.
