How obvious is a baseplate/tow bar connection on a toad?

Hi,

How obvious is the tow kit on the front of a toad? Would anyone have any photos to share and vehicle it is.

I know that how obvious it is will depend on the vehicle.

Thanks,

Lots of variation ... both in specific vehicle and in brand/model of baseplate/towbar.

Best place to see might be the primary tow device manufacturers’ websites (RoadMaster and BlueOx):

Roadmaster Inc. - Tow Bars, Braking Systems & RV Accessories

Blue Ox® Towing Products

There are others, but these two seem to be the most popular.

Can vary greatly from type of car to type of tow bar, braking etc.
Below is Jeep and Suburban setups.

Thanks both,

I do appreciate the posts.

The Suburan install is well hidden, did they have to cut the bumper?

Thanks,

It will depend on the kit you install and the vehicle. Both Blue Ox and Roadmaster, the two most common kits available, can be set up with very little noticeable protrusions when disconnected. Roadmaster, I believe, will leave a more obvious receiver on the vehicle when it's connected whereas Blue Ox leaves only two holes where the detachable receiver is inserted. I have the Blue Ox on my Mini and it's hardly noticeable except that part of the grille had to cut away for the receiver ports due to the low ride height of the car. The same would have to be done with the Roadmaster system as well. Other cars do not need that modification.

I would suggest that you Google your type of vehicle along with the terms Blue Ox and Roadmaster tow system, and see some pictures that apply to you, specifically.

Edit: Others posted as I typed and covered all of this. Follow up and look at websites for the systems attached to your type of vehicle.

When I installed the Blue Ox plate there was a small amount of trimming of the plastic required in the recovery hook openings.

Hi Spk,

That makes sense now they used the recovery hook openings.

After having the baseplate installed on my Jeep, I took some flat black paint and sprayed anything that was visible. Made everything “Fade to black”.

UD-

This is copied from the Roadmaster installation instructions for our toad.

After the baseplate install, I added the (Demco) Stay-in-Play Duo, installing its breakaway switch under the license plate. I also installed a 7-pin hitch connector for the umbilical. So, our car's front-end is not as uncluttered as this picture. It is very neat, however.

As a side note, when the brackets are removed I put black rubber chair tips in the two Roadmaster bracket holes that you see in the picture. This keeps out road grime and some moisture.
