Evening,
Towbar is three years old. I regularly inspect and keep all hinge points lubed with silicone spray but I'm wondering when its reasonable to think about replacing the whole unit. I would think there is metal fatigue involved and I definitely don't want to suffer a catastrophic failure. So what do the experts recommend as a replacement interval or what have some of you done?

If you happen to attend any of the RV rally's, the tow bar manufacturers usually have a booth. They will inspect & replace bushings, worn parts, etc,... free - or - for a very nominal charge. Metal fatigue would be unusual unless the bar has been used in extreme service.

HERE is an article on this very subject on the Blue Ox web site.

Blue Ox has a good article on their home page titled "Tow Bars Wear Out?" that may be helpful. The article never really tells you when to replace a tow bar, but it tells you how to inspect and maintain your tow bar. It may not be necessary to replace the entire tow bar if there is wear because many of the parts are replaceable. I agree with BOB E that if you are attending a rally, it is a good idea to have an expert look at the tow bar if there is ever a question about condition or wear.

I have used a Blue Ox Aladdin tow bar since 1999 and I have put about 100,000 miles on it. Bluse Ox has inspected it at rallies five times and replaced worn parts each time. At the Tampa rally in January the Blue Ox technician serviced it and told it is was good for at least two more years.
