OK, So I guess we had to adjust our budget some! Can't find much for 6k.

We can go up to 10k for a toad. Might just buy a front wheel drive SUV and a tow dolly?

A 2004-6 Chevy Equinox or Saturn Vue would fall in the $5-10K range and is towable 4 down.

OK, decided that I'm going to buy a tow dolly with brakes. We will really only tow our toad 3 or 4 times and year. We never go more then $500 from home.

So now I should be able to buy any front wheel drive SUV under 4k right?

Lot of used HHR's under $6,000 around. They can use a dolly or pull 4 down with a switch on a 2AMP fuse. 3,300 lb put in N and pull.

SuperDad,

Not sure which part of the country you're from, but I found a 2002 Suzuki Vitara on autotrader.com for just shy of $5,000. It's in Virginia:

I'm in Atlanta. Found a 2006 Saturn Vue with AWD V-6 110k for $6500.

I already has a baseplate and wiring.

Is this a good deal?

I had a 2008 Saturn view with 85,000 miles and base plates already on that a dealer gave me $6700 for when I traded for a 2012 terrain. Judge for yourself.

I bought the 2006 Saturn Vue. it's a cute little car. We'll try it for now, If we end up towing a car more then we thought we would, we might switch to a Honda Pilot. But for 6k I don't think I could go wrong on this Vue. Has the Roadmaster baseplate and tail light wiring on it.

If I had the funds to buy new I'd get a Jeep 4wd with manual transfer case.

WHY... Well.. I have wanted a Jeep for a long time, when it comes to "Fun" cars the Jeep routinely wins the "Bang for the Buck" contests cause it's a lot of fun for the money. (I actually had a jeep for 4 days once, Long story)

As it is I have to buy used.. So I got a 2001 Neon with LP-1 (Remco Lube Pump) and tow it 4 down, Final cost about 4,000 license and taxes included.

Me thinks you will be very happy with the Saturn Vue. I just bought one at Christmas for my Grand daughter, 2005, $5900 cunuck $s . It has 110,000 KMs, 70,000 miles. No tow plate or wirering. If it is the 6cyl model, then it has the Honda engine and tranney. I tow a 2005 Saturn Ion, behind a Winney Aspect, do not feel it. Good luck, good RVing, Clare

My best suggestion: Store : Remco

Pick a towed in your price range that you like and go to the link Enter the details (Make, Model, Style, Engine, Transmission, and such) and it tells you what you need to do to tow 4 down

Lube Pump, installed, around 1600 as I recall.. Tow bar system, about the same, brakes likewise. Do not forgot those charges.

you may shop for lower cost brake and such systems

Check out the ready brute tow bar with ready brake or the blue ox models with auto stop as that cuts down on the price but be warned if not used often enough (towed) the car's cable may seize and that gets expensive. (New Pads, New Rotors and possible New tires)
