After just a couple of trips with our 2005 Vue, I'm seriously ready to stop pulling the fuse and put the by-pass switch in. Being the conservative type, my first inclination is "like for like" and I started to look for an in-line fuse holder that would handle that large fuse. I've had no luck locally.

What did the rest of you do? Switch fuse types? Find an on-line supplier?

Thanks

Charlie

I replaced my large-size fuse with a standard automotive ATC fuse of the same amperage. Fuse holders for this size fuse are quite common at auto parts stores and even Walmart. Make sure the fuse is connected to the hot side of the existing fuse holder. Otherwise, the circuit will not be protected when the switch is off.

Saturn probably improved their fuse pulling strategy but it's the same as my 2004 AWD V6.

All I need to do is remove the 2A BCM Cluster fuse and I'm good to go. I still want to install a SPST switch and design an in-line 2A mini fuse holder and attach wires to a blown fuse which I can socket into the fuse panel and leave there permanently.

I had this arrangement in my 04 and it worked great. I'm just a little slow on the uptake in getting the 08 done.

Yep, ATC fuse holders are all over the place. I understand that 30amps is 30amps but assumed that there was some important reason that Saturn departed from the standard ATC approach. If the current were flowing through the ATC fuse only when we were towing, I wouldn't worry as much. But realizing that whatever fuse holder I put in is going to be the main current path every time we drive the car is what lead me to try to keep it the same as the original fuse.

I just wanted some verification that I wasn't creating problems for myself by downsizing the physical size of the fuse.

chasfm11, If the amperage is the same it won't make any difference what the size is. What I did was get a 30A fuse holder and a small water tight box and add a toggle switch to the box and electrical spades for connections to and from the fuse panel. Also works well for a cut-off switch in parking lots.
Sure beats pulling the fuse!
