Installation of Blue Ox Flat towing supplemental tail lights on 2014 Fiat 500L

Hi:

I am seeking help on a rear light cluster matter.

I purchased all the towing kit required to flat tow this 2014 Fiat 500L from Blue Ox, and I successfully installed the base plate and other mechanicals but came across an issue with the tail light cluster.

The instructions for the BX 8869 (supplemental tail lights) are vague as to the hole location for the additional bulb installation, and the Blue Ox base plate sheet depicts a clear photo of the hole location in the exact tail light cluster I have.

The problem I find is that the hole in their photo is in a position that provides insufficient depth for the bulb and holder....(and so I can change the location of course)......But...more concerning to me is the fact that the cluster has an inner cowling that wouldn't appear to allow the supplemental light to reach the reflective surface!

Basically I am seeking a clear direction where to drill the 1" hole so that the light performs adequately.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

Look on youtube for installation of that particular kit and vehicle. I found my 2010 CRV there and it helped a lot.

Have you considered tapping into the factory wiring. I think it's the cleanest/best option. I did it on my Fiat 500. Wiring kit from Demco.
