Insurance for Towed Vehicle

Does regular auto collision insurance cover a towed vehicle?

Best to check with your agent. What situation are you thinking might happen? You driving the motorhome and run into something which causes damage to the toad?

Your auto should be covered under your insurance policy. However, that being said I would check with your insurance company to make sure there are no caveats that may void your coverage.

Just wondering what would happen if it falls off the back of the coach. It would have to be pretty significant damage to file a claim so I don't think a dolly mishap would do enough to warrant that.

My understanding is that once detached from the motorhome your auto insurance is in control and subject to its provisions and limitations. While attached is another matter and may be different in regards to liability versus collision. But just my opinion.

Yes. Usually your insurance company wants your car & MH Insurance business. You absolutely need insurance on your towed when your driving it

I just renewed and asked that very question. I was told that the toad is treated the same as if you are towing a trailer. If it comes loose, the mh insurance covers the damage it my cause. Your auto insurance, according to your coverage, would pay to fix your toad. I have different companys on each.

We'll have the same company for both. Insurance rates are a mystery. The first quote I got for the motor home was $1000 a year for the usual comp and collision with 100/300/75 liability coverages. My agent told me the RV had to be on a different policy than my three autos. I also have three motorcycles insured with the same company. Later he called and said the RV could be added to the auto policy and the premium went down $250 as did the premium for the other vehicles on the policy because of the muticar discount so the net increase was only going to be about $500 per year.

I will ask about towed car coverage when I buy the policy.
