does the price of auto insurance increase for the owed vehicle as compared to a non towed vehicle??? state farm told me they needed to know if vehicle we're planning on buying is going to be a towed vehicle. our insurance on motorhome is with national but we use state farm for other vehicles.

I have State Farm for my autos and to my knowledge, towing the insured car has no effect on the premium. Not sure why they want to know, but my agent does know that I tow the car.

Never heard of an extra charge for towed vehicles, but if State Farm is asking, that may be on their mind. Towed vehicles tend to get stone chips and such - maybe they have been getting too many claims for re-paint jobs on toad cars?

While the car is being towed, it is covered by the towing vehicle's insurance. If it disconnected for any reason, any damage it caused to others would actually be covered by both its own insurance and the tow vehicles, but damage to itself is probably covered only by its own insurance.

Maybe for liability only.

That is correct - liability only. Any collision or comprehensive would normally be specific to the vehicle named in the policy.
