Per the owners manual, you CANNOT tow a 2008 Compass 4 down!
RECREATIONAL TOWING (BEHIND
MOTORHOME, ETC.)
Towing This Vehicle Behind Another Vehicle (Flat
towing with all four wheels on the ground)
CAUTION!
DO NOT flat tow this vehicle. Damage to the drivetrain
will result.
NOTE: If the vehicle requires towing make sure all four
wheels are off the ground.

Exactly. This info is on page 293 of the owners manual. Vehicle will have to be towed on a trailer.

You guys are awesome! Yup - checked the manual - that's why I love IRV2!!!
So, they are trying to get me into a 2011 Wrangler unlimited X softtop - with automatic. Too much $$,I think.
Or a 2007 unlimited X. Not sure. Still lots of $$.
Recommendations, thoughts reallyappreciated!! Thanks again!

I believe the Jeep Liberty is also an option for towing 4-down.

yes. Liberty. My wife has an 011 limited, maxed out was about 27k. Less highly optioned versions are down around 18k, much less than any new wrangler.

The 2008 Wrangler unlimited X looked nice, but I couldn't get them down to the price I wanted
What does anybody think - we have 2 kids, one teen and one tween, - can the 2 door wrangler fit 4 adults comfortable? If we get it, we'll have it forever. But the 2 door is so much lighter!

I run a 2000 TJ. The VERY short one. Up front is comfy, no problem. Back is best suited for short people. Last weekend, we had the 13yo, 22yo, and 50 pound dog back there. Nobody complained, but the top was down ans we didn't have far to go. Besides, we were camping!
Last summer, we were all over Colorado, Idaho, and Wyoming in it with just the 13yo and the dog, no problem there at all.
Luv my Wrangler!!
