Jeep GC & front tow hooks

Just bought a 2017 GC Summit which does not come with the front tow hooks and wondering if anyone has setup the front baseplate?

If you have the tow hook feature did you have to modify the opening or does the base plate fit?

Besides the 6 pin connection is there any interference with the forward looking system.

I'm thinking of ordering the tow hook style lower grill and not have to cut up the original.

If the 2017 is like my 2012, the openings for the hooks are in the lower grill and have screw on plates covering the openings, so no need to cut anything. I kept the plates and reinstalled them when I sold it. I have had the adaptive cruse control "eye" on both my 2012 and 2014 GC's and there is no problem with it.

Just bought the next trim down, the GC Overland. It had the chrome tow hooks. Just had the tow plates installed yesterday and they just removed the hooks and used the same space for the brackets.

Dennis thanks for the info on the "eye". I am concerned with that.

Pete can you expand on the install. My dealer is trying to confirm if the Overland lower grill would fit in the opening of the Summit. If so I will buy it.

I assume that the front faceia has to be removed.

Is the base plate 2 separate pieces or does it have a cross bar connecting. I plan to use the blue Ox system.

Do you have the adaptive cruise sensors in your grill.

Check the Blue Ox site for your model baseplate. Has install instructions for Summit model among others.

On the 2016 model GC, it required the removal of the tow hooks. That is where the base plate (Blue Ox) exits the front fascia. Between the connection point for the safety chains/cables and the attachment point for the tow bar, my tow hooks were removed and about 1/4" - 1/2 of material needed to be removed on the outside upper corner of the opening to clear the base plate.

Hope this helps.

Bill thanks this is what I was looking for. If I buy the Overland grill I'll still have to modify it. Think I'll just buy a spare Summit grill instead.

As far as I know, your tow hooks will need to be permanently removed during base plate install. The amount of additional material that needed to be removed in my case was minimal. The installer hadn't removed any and the front fascia was hitting on the receptacle for the tabs.

The Summit does not come with tow hooks so I thought about the the Overland grill instead.

If you have the collision warning system can you get a centerline distance from the "eye" to the tow bar extension. No hurry just if you have time

Sorry for the delayed response, I spent yesterday at the dealers having the braking system installed.
I decided I liked the Roadmaster setup better than the Blue Ox, so I can't comment on your selection. On mine, the tow hooks were removed and the plates installed. There was no need to remove any additional material. They did remove and reinstall the fascia. There was no modification to the fascia.
The Overland (at least mine) does not have the adaptive sensor.
The brackets are separate, with a front mount bar connecting them and providing the tow bar connections.
