My Jeep is a few years older than yours, but there is no need for the key fob in mine. My steering wheel does not lock, so there's no need for the key to be in the ignition. I have an auto transmission, so I leave my transfer case in neutral and the transmission in park, then I can tow. I use a brake system too... but your question was about the key fob.

Check your owners manual under "recreational towing". It ill tell you the procedure. If it tells you to put the vehicle in park and turn off key then put it into your pocket. I believe all of the towable Jeeps do not have steering locks so you would be good to go.

Cheers,

Here's the last step from the manual:
13. Shift the transmission into PARK, turn the engine OFF, and remove the key fob.
