Jeep Patriot Toad

I would be very interested in hearing from people that purchased the Patriot as a toad. Which baseplate and braking system did you go with? Cost to set it up for towing?

Are interest is in the lighter weight for a 4X4 and lower cost compared to CRV's and Wranglers.

Any thought or experiences with the vehicle would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jim

Check the year to be sure it can be towed.

Aside from that, I really like blue ox tow bars and plates ($1000)

And I personally like the M&G Engineering braking systems.
M & G Engineering - Car Braking Systems: Home Page

Basically the system ties into the air brakes on the coach and ties directly to the master cylinder of the car. So nothing to put in the car and take out of the car, it just works.

I paid about 700 for the system, and then got totally RIPPED OFF on the install at 2200 (when M&G, an hour from me, would have done it for $700)

M&G quoted me 700 to install, but then recommended I go to a local place.. so I made the mistake of assuming their install price would be very close.. boy was I surprised!

OH and one other thing, this might stupid, but you can also tow a Suzuki Samurai. And while it's not sexy, the 4x4 side of it will run circles... plus it's cheap cheap cheap and super light If it had a little more cubic feet of cargo space, I'd tow one in a heartbeat!

Most/some Patriots were not towable. Check carefully.

That's kind of what I was thinking, that only a few models were able to be towed (if any)

Jeep Patriot and Compass (same platform) are only 4-down towable with the manual trans. Good luck finding one with the stick.

The Liberty 4WD or the OLD Cherokee 4WD (1984-2001) are towable 4-down.

TThanks for the tip on the install and braking system

I had not heard of the M&G System, but it sounds great except for the install price of 2200.

I am looking at the new Jeep Patroit and according to Motorhome Mags list it is towable with manual transmission.

opps, just called M&G, not enough space under the bonnet in the Patriot to mount their system.

Rg,

Jim

Darn that's too bad cause it's a seriously simple system once installed.
