We have an opportunity to get a TJ, but the one thing that is a bit of a problem is security. From what the owner says, it's bascially just wide open. I wonder whether anyone has come up with a clever way to create a security box in lieu of back seating maybe, or some other way so that leaving groceries inside while you go to the next store might be OK.

Tuffy makes a steel box that bolts into the Jeep in place of the rear seat. It has a securely lockable drawer that will hold alot. Lst time I priced the at 4 Wheel Parts they were about $380 plus install.

Hi, thanks for the heads up. I found the Tuffy website and looked at various products. There is one that replaces the back seat and gives the capacity of a very large cooler for about $645. Lot's of options for sure.
Maybe we will be jeep owners.....
Mike

Tuffy also has replacements for the center console and the glove box, as well as an overhead radio rack. Most people suggest never lock the doors on a softtop jeep, they will just cut your expensive plastic windows. Never leave any valuables in the jeep, unless locked away in a tuff box. www.jeepforum.com is a good site for jeep info.

Hi All,
First: Locks keep honest folks honest! In other words if somebody wants something you have, they will get it !!
Second: I am on my second rag top jeep since 1995, and in those 14 years I have not had anything taken out of my jeep!
Third: One of the most important things to remember is always be a wear of your surroundings !

I believe a "lock" or "locked box" will prevent certain types of crime, most certainly the "smash and grab" where the criminal smashes out the window and grabs everything he can reach through the window and is moving on as quickly as possible.
We had this happen to our Jeep within a month of purchase, it was early in the morning and in an extremely nice part of town. Perhaps if we were in a bad neighborhood they would not have messed with it... BTW, we had the hard top on at the time. I believe that if my laptop were locked in a locked box they would not have taken the time to mess with it...

One rule with soft top Jeeps... never lock them. Criminals won't think enough to just unzip it, they will cut the to or windows which will result in more $ than anything you should have left in a soft top Jeep.
