Kar Kaddy SS

ok. Just bought our first class a. We have 2 vehicles on our household. Hyundai sub awd, and VW passat automatic. Neither can be towed 4 down. Not really interested I. Buying another vehicle just to tow 4 down. Have been looking a a lot of different dollies and am totally confused. The kar kaddy ss has the surge breaks that my state requires and I like the fold away feature as garage space is limited. Any suggestions? Thanks for helping....

I really like our SS. We pull a PT Cruiser and it may be overkill but it is well made and very functional. We were able to find a 2006 for $1100. I did replace the tires this year.

If you search online for the owner's manual, it shows how to measure your car to confirm it is compatible with the ramp angle.

The fold up feature really helps for storage and at some shorter camp spots.

Kar kaddy ss

I was going to get the Kar Kaddy SS but got the ACME instead. Lighter and less expensive. Nothing against the KK but it is much larger than the one I bought and heavier. I do like the galvanized finish though. If you have a chance to look at them it might help in your decision.

Also, check the Hyundai owners manual, some AWD vehicles can't be towed on a dolly.

We have a Kar Kaddy SS and have been very pleased with it. We used it to tow a highlander (2wd) which weighs 4175 lbs. and a miata. I remove the ramps when towing the miata since it is so low to the ground. This is the only dolly I would consider. There is a youtube video on this dolly. The dolly has a 3500 lb. axle and I believe it will tow a car up to 4700 lbs. The ramps will carry a car with a minimum tire width of 42 inches and a max of 76 inches. This is directly out of the manual.
We are planning on selling it in the spring since we just purchased a 2015 Equinox and plan to tow it four down and also convert the miata to four down towing

We bought our KKSS the same time we bought our 82 PA and really like it and everything about it. Really like the Surge Breaks, I tried selling it on Ebay, and am glad it didn't sell now that we will be going FT next year..
A very well built unit. I Carrie a 99 deville, concours on it.

Hello Paul,
Just curious what you plan to do about tail lights when towing your Passat? I haven't towed our Passat since buying last year. Since the lighting system of the Passat can't be cut into I thought about magnetic lights but I am concerned about them scratching the paint. Have you found anything else to use?
BTW, I have 2005 KK SS I bought used.

Thanks,
Chuck

I have been looking at the new Sportwagon, inside lights would be right in the back and would certainly simplify towing preparation. Looking forward to how you make out.

Why can't you cut into the break lights on a VW?
I had them hook up the car lights, Have too add a diode but that was it, ran the wires from the trunk up thru the firewall and up too the grill. This was done on a 99 Cadillac and they are know for wires lots of wiring.
I bought a set of magnet lights $60 bucks and they moved in and turned facing each other before that is why I had them hooked up to the car. Plus it looks good. I think.
Happy Turkey day, Tim
