Lexus Gx 470

I have a 2007 GX 470 that has the 4wd shifter on the center console with neutral 4 high and 4 low. Camping World says they can put a driveshaft disconnect on the car. A local RV store says they can but would not recomend. Lexus owners book and dealer says it can not be towed on all 4'S. Who would you listen to? Has anyone pulled a GX 470?

Thanks for the info. I'm aware that Lexus states not to tow. That is the reason for the inquire. Thanks for your time.

Seawalker, go park you gx 470 on a slope then shift the transfer case in neutral release all brakes and see what happens. Yep you begin to roll just like if you were to tow it.

When you put the transfer case in neutral it takes your transmission out of play.

Personally, I would heed the manufacturer (Lexus).

Roadmaster makes a base plate for it so somebody must be towing it 4-down. How? ...who knows.

Amanda, my post tells you how. Why is it so hard to understand?

Well, as I say quite a bit on this forum, I'm a lot dumber than I look. Some of us just aren't blessed with intelligence. I guess that's why I find it hard to understand things sometimes.

A short coast down a hill does not tell if it is towable. Long term (maybe short term) you may damage the transmission. It depends on how the transmission is and transfer case are lubricated.

In short, heed the manufacturer and follow Remcos chart.

Best bet, IMHO, is to trade Lexus in on a nice Jeep.

We tow a Jeep now. The 2001 Wrangler only has 23k miles and this is all we use it for. The rest of the time it sits in the garage. Would like to use the Lexus.
