Lexus
We towed our toad over 50,000 miles. Ourlx470 was an ‘02’. Never had an ounce of trouble. However if you ask a Lexus dealer they will say no way.

The connection system is actually an offroad bumper that is rated by the manufacturer for flat towing. It's a Metal Tech Goblin bumper for the 2008 GX470. We use that in conjunction with a Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar and Roadmaster "035" d-ring adapter to hook into the off-road bumper.
**Reason why we've only towed it once - we have tow bar and bumper installed, but simply haven't had time to rig up the toad braking system yet (planning on using a Ready Brake). Also -- the trips we've gone on so far in the RV have been fairly close to home, so it's been easy for the wife to just follow me in the Lexus. Will get the braking system installed soon though and tow the toad more!
The one time we did test it, we were not on a public road due to lack of a toad braking system. All seemed to work well though. Put the transfer case in Neutral (yes, it's a mechanical transfer case on the '08) and transmission in "park", key in the ignition, and seemed to work okay. Wife rode in the Lexus to listen for any transmission sounds and didn't hear anything amiss. Hope this helps out. We should have the braking system rigged up and on a trip in a few weeks or so, will update this thread then (if I forget - just DM me).

**Update - took a 430 mile trip with the RV last month, towed the 2008 Lexus GX470 there and back, it worked perfectly!
(Technique I used = transmission in drive, then shift to neutral, shift transfer case to neutral, then shift transmission to park. Turn off car but leave key in ignition)

FYI - We are selling our 2008 Lexus GX470 with 85k miles. No dashboard issues whatsoever. More info here: 2008 Lexus GX470 with Off-Road Bumper - RV & Motorhome Classifieds
(Short version - we're switching from a motorhome to 5th wheel and need a pickup truck instead of an SUV!)

We venture
Most important is the key in ign. If key falls out, like mine did, the wheel will turn out and skid till you feel it. Long enough and a new tire is next.

This happened once to me... I bought a battery disconnect switch on Amazon for about $12. Now we just leave the key all the way on.
