My vote goes to the Ford Escape Hybrid. Light weight and great mileage. Seats 5 and that's important for us.

We have towed a Jeep Liberty, a Chevy Suburban, and a Mini Cooper S. We have the most fun with the Mini. I also can hook up in three minutes or less and no need to worry about a Brake Buddy. I enjoy the looks and thumbs up I get from the sign on the back of the Mini that says "I'm pushing as hard as I can."

We love our 2008 Honda CR-V for many reasons. Number one in safety, gets 30 mpg on highway, automatic, lots of cargo space, ~3400 pounds, very easy to hook up (nothing extra to do), comfortable to drive, seats 5, holds it's value, and very stylish!

I would say the CR-V is a good one......we like ours, but, I'd have to say the Ranger, cause the Harley goes in the bed!

Mountainkowboy......We think alike. Like you we tow a 2003 CRV and a 2008 Ford Ranger with a Harley Road King in the back. All around good combinations.

I'm all for the new Wrangler. From the time Julia pulls it up to the coach, I can be ready to leave in less then 10 minutes. I take longer because I have a check list that we always go through no matter how many time we've towed.

Does nobody pull a Jeep YJ or TJ?? As far as I am concerned they are one of the best towed's out there. I have a 94 YJ that we just love, but the wife wants AC, so I am dealing on a 2006 Rubicon Unlimited. THey are easy to hook up and tow great. I have a wireless camera keeping an eye on mine behind the RV.

We pull a 2007 Ford Focus 3 door (hatchback). It does double duty as my daily work car. Trouble free, so far, and nothing special needed to tow it.
Sister-in-law and her husband tow a Jeep CJ (I think. Round headlights.) Also, no problems or special hookups.

I started my search by looking at the Motorhome Mag. list of dinghy's. I did not want to add non OEM stuff like driveshaft disconnects, tranny oil pumps, etc. I also did not want to be limited in the speed the toad could be towed or a limited range in miles before you have to stop and start the engine and run the tranny through the gears.
I our case, I have wife and 4 kids (14 yrs to 18 months). Until this spring, we towed a 36' 5r with a Superduty Crew Cab Ford 4X4. When the baby came along, 6 people in the P/U was not working. We up graded to the new MH. When we considered what vehicle to buy, I needed to be able to have 3rd row seating, 4x4 capability and at least 7,000 lbs of towing capacity (I plan to get rid of the Superduty).
Our list got pretty small. The Ford Explorer, V8, 4x4 with the Dealer installed Neutral Tow Kit fit our needs. It seat 7, can tow 7,200 lbs, and has 4wd. We ordred the Explorer to get exactly what we wanted and had the dealer install the NTK. That is another story. The Explorer is heavy at 4,700 lbs. I haven't taken a MH trip without pulling the Explorer, so with the genset running and the Explorer in tow, I average 6.5 to 7.05 mpg. All trips to date have been north up in the mountains and during the summer where I run the genny just about the entire trip. I am playing with the speed to try and nail down the optimum speed for the best mpg's.
So, I would suggest starting with the dinghy towing guide from MH Mag. and figure out what your needs are and how you plan to use the toad.
By the way, the Explorer so far has been flawless. It pulls great behind the MH and drives very close in comfort to the first vehicle on my list which was the Land Rover LR3 SE V8 (what a vehicle). But, the Explorer was $15k less and I don't plan on going on a Safari, so I couldn't justify the additional money for the LR3.
Good Luck!
