As I am somewhat fearful of picking up an unwanted passenger while refueling, I lock the Toads doors using the remote. One push will lock/unlock the driver's door and two pushes will lock/unlock all doors. Take your choice...

On my 2004 Tahoe LT, I take the key out and lock the doors. Must be something in the computer that keeps the steering wheel from locking when the transfer case is in neutral...and yes, I have over 4000 miles towing this way.

except for some 4wd vehicles which do not have a steering lock, thus enabling them to be towed with the key completely removed. I have about 10,000 toad miles on my GMC Canyon 4x4 and the key is always removed before I take off.

rebelsbeach You are absolutely correct. I have a 2004 Envoy, and I tow it exactly as you describe, and the manual describes. In addition, I do remove the key, since when the ignition is in the "Lock" position(which refers only to locking the ignition, not the steering wheel, which is unlocked)the key may be removed, just as it is when you turn off the ignition and leave the vehicle under normal conditions. Also, with these GMC vehicles, there is no steering wheel lock, period, which is what allows this feature to work. RZ

On my 2003 Honda crv I open the passenger door ,reach across and push the drivers door lock and it locks the entire car.

To; ALL ; Re; locking TOAD doors while towing.

With my 96 Pontiac and the new Pontiac G6 the ignition key is put in first position, unlocking the wheel, but the dash lights and accesories are on so the EGM 1 fuse has to be removed to preserve battery. The fuse on the G6 is under the hood, not very convenient ,, I ran a line with an in-line fuse from fuse box to kick-panel beside the brake pedal.

Because of alarm, I lock all doors with button on drivers door, not with remote, motion sensor would set off alarm and I would not hear it.

Always keep doors locked, it's safer.

I guess that we are fortunate to have installed an aftermarket alarm system that had a valet switch. In valet mode, the doors will lock but the alarm isn't set. I keep a spare alarm fob in the MH, leaving a single key that I use for towing in the toad's ignition.

I also replaced the top pins in the base plate with locks. Someone could still pull the main pins, undo the safety cables, etc. and get into the toad by smashing a window. I was just trying to make it as difficult as I could.
