Looking for a Toad

I'm trying to see if I can find a used vehicle I can buy that is already equipped to be towed 4 wheels down. In otherwords...already comes with Towbar etc.

I'm not sure of the best way to search. I've tried craigslist, but am having no luck.

Anyone have any suggestions how I might find one of these?

Have a look at the classified section at the top of the page of irv2.

Try the classifieds on this forum. I haven’t checked in awhile but you might find some listings.

Store : Remco

If you can't find one all set up then Remco will tell you what cars are able to be towed 4 down.

Try the FMCA Towing classified. There is sometimes one or two listed there.

Used toads

We saw a lot in Apache Junction last year that was almost all RTU pre-owned toads ( don't know the name). Bet there are more dealers in that niche in other areas. If you can find one on a regular car lot it will be a bargain because in most cases, the dealer does not target the RV market. I think there is a face book page with that emphasis also.
Good luck!

My brother in Knoxville, TN has a 2016 Ford Explorer Sport for sale that is ready to go. Complete Blue Ox baseplate, lighting and an Air Force 1 braking system. They tow easily 4 wheels down, all you have to do is put the transmission in neutral and you're ready to roll. Let me know and I can hook you up with him.

I am also looking, but more specifically need a 3rd row seat SUV. Not an easy find. Have seen a few on FB marketplace, but you have to search city by city. Also found one 2015 Chevy Colorado in Crossville, TN Chevy dealership, (asking$29k) but doesn’t have the seat space I need.

Spent a lot of time looking for 3rd row seat options. You can spend big bucks on a used Yukon/Suburban, a little less on an Explorer/Traverse sized ride. Noticed you seem to pay a premium for the SUV types. We went with a Ford Flex. Depending on how appointed, will seat six/seven. We went with the six seat option which gives you easy access to the third row. If you have someone in the family that might have problems getting in a vehicle that sits higher (SUV) or if knee or other joint surgery is in your future, the lower height of the FLEX is helpful. They also come in AWD and FWD and both are flat towable.

A 2015 FLex is going to be more than 10K less than that Colorado. We got a 2015 Flex Limited for 18K.

Hopefully we’ll find a decent Traverse/Buick Enclave. Tahoe/Suburban/Expedition are too big. Had not thought about the Flex, drove one for the school district a few times.

The wife and I drove a Traverse. Rear seat access with car seats in the second row was problematic. You'd have to pull a car seat to get access to the 3rd row. Flex with seating for six makes it easy. If you need seating for seven you would still need to pull a car seat or have the younger ones crawl over the 2nd/3rd row to get to the 3rd row seat.

MotorHome magazine publishes a Dinghy Towing guide every year for that years models. If you subscribe, you can download every year back to 2003. Since I already had a subscription, I poured over them to find something. We found a 2014 Honda CR-V that was a certified pre-owned at a local dealer. Two days after picking it up, the DW asked me as were walking up to the car from a restaurant, "what are those steel things sticking out from under the front of the car?". Crawled under after we got home and found it was a Blue-Ox base plate! A little more inspection, and I found it had auxiliary tail lights already installed and the wiring in place. Furthermore, there was a little rocker cutout switch under the dash, to cut the power to radio, but not lose the presets. Guess, it's because it's towed in Neutral with the key in ACC position, the compass or display would drain the battery.

Dealer did not even know the car had been set up to flat tow.

I DID need to order the big attachment pins that lock into the front of the baseplate which what the tow bar attaches to. Those cost me about $100 from Blue-Ox. Then, all I had to do was get a towbar, cables, pins, etc.
