Mazda 5 for a Toad?

I am looking for a lighter weight (approx 3500 lb) car to tow for 6 people. The only possibility in this class appears to be a Mazda 5 - a compact mini-van of sorts.

It looks like Mazda says not to tow the manual transmission model 4 wheels down, but REMCO lists some years as towable... Store : Remco

Anyone tow a manual Mazda 5 flat?

Most Mazda manual transmission models can be towed flat but check the owners manual to be sure. If you only want an automatic, you will have to tow on a dolly. Not my first choice but if you really need space for six passengers... Also, there may not be a baseplate available for this model.

If you really can get by with five passengers, then the Honda CRV would be my first choice as it can be towed 4 down with an automatic transmission.

Also, you should look at Ford and GM, some of their smaller cars can haul six people, are light, and can be towed 4 down with an automatic.

Thanks Luvlabs -- I want to stick with a hatchback and the Mazda 5 is the only 6 passenger at 3500lbs in existence that I know. The Honda CRV would be my first choice if we can make due with a 5 passenger vehicle. Mazda does not address towing a manual transmission, but the Remco Towing site has equipment available for it.
