AndrewC-

The place to start is the car's owner's manual. What does it say?

Then follow up with looking at the Motorhome Magazine Dinghy Towing Guide for 2006.

The MDX was only approved for towing until 2005.

If you google "towing an acura mdx 2006", you will find several forums that discuss this topic.

From what I've read very quickly, many state that the 2006 has the same transmission as the 2005, but Acura will not warranty the 2006 for being towed. I also read that the transmission was changed in 2007.

I have no idea if this is factual info.

Sounds like our '05 Ody. Before buying it to tow four down I called Honda and they said it was towable four down, do you want that in writing? I said yes and was lucky I had it. Took it to RoadMaster and they used it for a test fitting. Towed it 300 miles and started seeing that Honda said no to towing it.
After some back and forth involving the WA and CA AG's offices and showing them the letter Honda decided to send us a check for $2,300. So we bought a KK-460 dolly and used it for a few years. But we saw others towing the Ody's four down, talked with them and all reported having no problems, so about 4 or 5 years ago I went back to four down and haven't had any troubles.
So, it seems Honda was playing it safe by saying no to four down towing. BTW, always remember to release the parking brake before towing, even on a dolly!

Just happened to see this. We had an 06 Acura MDX all wheel drive that we towed for a couple of years before changing to an Acadia. We bought it thinking it was approved for towing because the dealer said it was. My fault for not checking but we towed it anyway as there was supposedly no changes from the 05 to 06 models. We never had any problems but only did it for a couple of years. The 06 was the last year for that body style and the 07's were radically different. I can't see any reason Honda would want to make changes for the last year run of that model, but I don't know for sure. Since there is no warranty left I would be inclined to just go ahead. Just get the towing instructions from an 05 owner's manual.
