Miles counted on push button start toads? Update

Hello,

For those towing a vehicle (in my particular interest it would be a 2011-2014 Ford Edge), that has a push button start, instead of a key, does your toad accumulate miles while being pulled?

I've seen people with Ford Edges say yes, and a couple say No. So, I'm wondering what the difference is. Could it be the method they use to put the vehicle in accessory/towing mode? Could it be a different specification of transmission from the factory (like a mid-year change)? Could it be the alignment of Venus and Neptune? I don't know, but I'd love to hear other's experiences.

Thanks!

I have 2008 Ford Explorer Sport Trac w/Ford Neutral Switch. The miles do not register on mine either. When I'm in tow, my ignition key is in the off position.

Thanks SMH, but, you mentioned ignition "key", does your Explorer have a key or push button start? I'm only asking about push button start vehicles. It seems all keyed vehicles don't register miles that I know of. Cheers!

Don't have one but can't imagine that it would rack up miles. Nothing mechanical anymore so unless the engine is running, odometer shouldn't be engaged. Key isn't really the issue.

Thanks guys! All good info.

Dennis, I have wondered about that myself. But, i have seen people say that their Edges with push button start racked up miles. Thankfully, that seems to not always be the case from what I've seen here so far.

Just had a thought earlier, maybe the fact that some report miles racking up and some don't is a difference between FWD and AWD. Here again, that shouldn't change things, but maybe it does. For those that tow an Edge, which version are you towing and are you accumulating miles?

Thanks in advance guys!

Towing a 2012 Limited Edge, fwd, keyless ignition, does not accumulate miles.

You must be very careful picking an Edge. Not all are towable.

Thanks! I'm looking at a FWD Edge Limited - Keyless. Only difference is it's a 2014. Think I should be OK with that.

If you don't mind me asking, what did you do for a baseplate and brakes? So many options out there.

On my 2012 Edge I used a Roadmaster baseplate and RVI brake system

I can tell you what brake NOT to use. I will install the ready brake this Spring. No chance of it accidentaly engaging.

One thing to be aware of is the adaptive cruise box that is in front of the radiators. Make sure you get a tow bar that is compatible with that option.
